Eargo makes hearing aids for the modern era – we tested a few models to see if they perform as expected – WKRG News 5

Because hearing loss can lead to isolation, anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression, it’s important to have your hearing checked every three to five years as you get older.

What can be done online has changed dramatically over the years. Nowadays, you can do almost anything on your computer. Now you can take a hearing test and get a pair of hearing aids without even leaving your home.

I was curious to see if this was really possible. Can you get a pair of hearing aids that actually work just by ordering online? I tried the two top models in the Eargo range: the Eargo Neo HiFi and the Eargo 5. Here is what I learned.

Are Eargo hearing aids for everyone?

It is important to understand that buying hearing aids online is not for everyone. Eargo hearing aids are designed primarily for people with mild to moderate high frequency hearing loss. Although Eargo is designed to be the first step in your return to clear hearing, it is advisable to see an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat specialist) or an audiologist (a professional hearing aid specialist). hearing health) if you have a hearing impairment problem.

How does buying hearing aids online work?

There are only three steps you need to complete your purchase and fine tune your Eargo hearing aids. First, take an online hearing test in a quiet room to determine if you are a candidate for Eargo hearing aids. Second, order the pair of Eargo hearing aids you want. Third, after you receive your hearing aids, talk to an Eargo licensed hearing care professional to learn how to use these new hearing aids.

What is the Eargo Neo HiFi?

The Eargo Neo HiFi is a model below the Eargo 5 (the company’s top-of-the-line model). These hearing aids feature tetrapalm ear tips, contact charging, a one-year warranty, Eargo’s best feedback reduction and are compatible with mobile applications.

My experience with Eargo Neo HiFi

Since this was my first time trying hearing aids, the setup was slightly difficult, but the instructions were so clear that I was up and running quickly without any issues. Although there was some minor itching, overall the hearing aids were comfortable to wear. Every now and then they got caught on my knit beanie so I had to be careful not to lose them. The sound quality was good and I could definitely hear better. However, the hearing aids had a slightly metallic quality.

What is the Ergo 5?

The Eargo 5 is the company’s top-of-the-range model. These hearing aids feature petal ear tips (for comfort), inductive charging, two-year warranty, Eargo’s best feedback reduction, automatic adjustments via the mobile app and possibility to modify hearing aids remotely.

My experience with Eargo 5

The configuration of the Eargo 5 was almost intuitive. It was nice to have technology that wasn’t intimidating. Compared to the Eargo Neo HiFi, the sound is much better, the metallic quality being considerably reduced. Sometimes there is a bit of background noise, but it’s not too annoying as the brain seems to learn to filter this out over time. The Eargo 5 is comfortable enough to be worn for long periods of time – there were times when I scratched my ear and was surprised to find that the hearing aids were still there. Battery life is as promised and all features work as expected.
