Cooking can be a very demanding exercise in equipment. With so much equipment on the market, it’s hard to figure out exactly what you need, what would be nice to have, and what is all a unnecessary marketing gimmick. Take a look at our cooking and cooking guides, such as How to Cook in a Small Kitchen, Equipment for Baking at Home, Best Chef’s Knives, and the Seven Pots and Pans You Need.

Few things seem as comfortable on an Instagram page as they do on the set of Mad Men. This is the archetype of the product most people think of when they hear the words “stand mixer”. The Artisan model has a tilting head that makes removing the bowl as easy as pie. There is also the KitchenAid Professional 6 Quart Blender for $ 430 ($ 100 off), which does not have the tilting head but offers a height adjustable arm and a more powerful motor to knead thicker doughs.

Right up there with Le Creuset in the pantheon of Dutch kiln royalty is Staub. A Dutch oven is one of the most versatile pieces in your kitchen. Make stews, steam oysters, bread, do it all. Every kitchen needs a Dutch oven, and an enameled cast iron makes cleanup easy by allowing you to cook acidic foods that would take away the seasoning from the bare cast iron. Not all colors or sizes are on sale for the same price or even on sale, so keep your fingers crossed that your favorite color is on sale. Or choose a new favorite color.

Logitech G305

Photography: Amazon

The G305 is a favorite among the WIRED review team. It’s affordable, ergonomically comfortable, and will run for up to 250 hours on a single AA battery. It also has a latency of just 1 millisecond, which means the lag is virtually nonexistent. Even if you are not a gamer, you should consider using one. An inexpensive gaming mouse will do wonders for your wrist.

We called this webcam “sharp, but overpriced” in our guide to the best webcams, but at half the price it’s great value. It can shoot at crisp 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. It’s the same price we saw it drop on Black Friday.

Sony WH-1000XM4

These are our favorite wireless headphones for most people (9/10, WIRED recommends). It has one of the best noise reductions you can find for the price, a fantastic soundstage and audio quality, and upgraded microphones for better call quality. It goes down frequently at this price, but it’s worth it.

At WIRED, we love mechanical keyboards. Compared to a typical membrane keyboard, the one on your laptop, a mechanical keyboard is more tactile and, for many of us, more pleasant to use. Das Keyboard is one of the original brands behind the revival of mechanical keyboards in the 2000s and has built a reputation for quality in this increasingly crowded market. The X50Q is a full-size keyboard, which means it has a numeric keypad, allowing it to double the tasks for gaming and work.

It’s the top pick in our guide to the best mechanical keyboards. You can choose between linear, tactile, and clickable switches, but don’t worry, you can replace the switches with something else if the defaults don’t match your speed. The only thing we don’t like? It uses a MicroUSB cable for charging (included).

There’s an old adage about files: if it doesn’t exist in three places, it doesn’t. This means that you should always have at least two backups, in addition to the original files. This 2 terabyte external drive offers plenty of storage. You can run macOS Time Machine backups for a very long time or fill the player with 4K movies and HDR photographs. There is also 500 GB ($ 80) and 1TB ($ 130) templates if you don’t need as much storage, for example if you mainly back up documents.

Leesa hybrid mattress

This hybrid foam / innerspring mattress was one of WIRED Reviews director Jeffrey Van Camp’s favorite mattresses. He called it “a real second in terms of comfort for my first choice”. .

I am a big fan of LaCrosse Down Duvet warmth and large amount of goose down. Down is getting more and more expensive, but it’s a good deal for a cotton duvet filled with 500-550 goose down. For an alternative without goose down, see the LaCross LoftAIRE.

We love the grid-like texture of this all-foam mattress. WIRED Critics Director Jeffrey Van Camp says it was fresh and airy, like lying on a pile of silicone waffles. Since there are no inner metal springs, lying on them will be different from a hybrid mattress. Purple offers a 100-day return policy if you decide that an all-foam mattress is not for you, although since it takes time for the foam to break, they will make you wait at least 21 days before return it.

If you sleep on your side, you know how difficult it can be to find a pillow that is comfortably shaped. Three types of shredded memory foam fill the Tempur-Cloud, allowing you to shape it however you like to sleep on your side, back, and stomach. The cover is removable so you can wash it.
